Special Issues

Special issues constitute a distinctive feature of Horizons - International Scientific Journal, offering comprehensive coverage of topics of high contemporary significance. These issues typically present a carefully curated selection of papers from the university’s annual scientific conference, as well as from conferences organized by its various faculties and departments.

Special Issues in Horizons - International Scientific Journal

Special issues in Horizons - International Scientific Journal are managed according to the same high standards and procedures as our regular issues, under the guidance of our permanent editorial board. Guest Editors for a special issue submit all received manuscripts to the journal for initial processing. Our permanent editorial board then oversees the assignment of peer reviewers and manages the review and editorial process. The evaluation for special issues is as rigorous and thorough as for regular issues. Peer reviewers conduct detailed assessments, leading to decisions on acceptance, rejection, or conditional acceptance pending revisions. The Guest Editors’ responsibility is limited to an ethical and fair initial editorial screening to ensure submitted articles meet the guidelines and publishing standards of Horizons - International Scientific Journal.

Guidelines for Potential Guest Editors

Prospective Guest Editors are invited to submit a proposal for a special issue, which should include the following:

  • Proposed Title: A concise title for the special issue (maximum 15 words).
  • Guest Editor Information: Names, affiliations, short biographies, and contact emails of all Guest Editors.
  • Summary, Aims, and Scope: An overview of the special issue’s intended focus, including a list of topics to be covered. Special issues should focus on a specific research topic, conference, or closely related area.
  • Introductory Essay: A long abstract (up to 1,800 words) of the planned introductory essay.
  • Call for Papers Draft: A draft of the announcement to solicit articles for the special issue.
  • Timeline: Expected date for submission of the complete set of articles.
  • Advance Planning: To ensure timely publication, proposals should be discussed with the editorial team at least five months in advance.

Activation and Publication

A special issue proceeds once the Guest Editors’ proposed articles are approved by the journal's editors and reviewers and upon signing the Agreement on the Publication of a Special Issue in Horizons - International Scientific Journal, which outlines the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved. Each special issue may include up to 10 published articles.
